Payment Options

Understanding Your Payment Options

At Blue Horizon Assisted Living, we believe that understanding your payment options is the first step toward peace of mind. We are committed to helping you and your family navigate the financial aspects of care. Below, we outline the primary payment methods we accept.

1. Private Pay (Out-of-Pocket)

Private Pay is a straightforward option where residents use their personal funds to cover the cost of care. This can include sources such as:

  • Personal Savings & Investments

  • Pensions or Retirement Accounts (e.g., 401k, IRA)

  • Social Security Benefits

  • Support from Family Members

We provide clear, upfront pricing for all our services, and our team can help you understand the specific costs associated with your chosen care plan.

2. VA Aid & Attendance Benefit

The VA Aid & Attendance (A&A) pension benefit is a valuable resource for wartime veterans and their surviving spouses who require assistance with daily living activities.

  • What it is: A monthly monetary benefit paid to the veteran or spouse to help cover the costs of long-term care.

  • Who may qualify: Wartime veterans or their surviving spouses who meet specific service, medical, and financial requirements.

We have experience assisting families with the understanding of this benefit. The application is submitted directly to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Our staff is happy to provide guidance and connect you with accredited Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) who can assist with the application process at no cost.

3. Long-Term Care Insurance

If you or your loved one has a Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) policy, it can be an excellent way to fund care.

  • How it works: Policyholders submit a claim to their insurance company, which then pays benefits directly according to the terms of the policy.

  • Next Steps: We recommend you contact your insurance provider to:

    • Confirm your coverage details and benefit triggers.

    • Understand your daily or monthly benefit amount and lifetime maximum.

    • Inquire about the claims process.

Our business office can work with you to provide the necessary documentation that your insurance carrier requires to activate your benefits.

4. Medicaid Turquoise Care

For those who qualify, Medicaid Turquoise Care (New Mexico’s Managed Care program) may cover long-term care services.

  • What it is: A state and federally funded program that provides health coverage to eligible individuals with limited income and resources.

  • Important Note: Coverage for long-term care facilities under Turquoise Care is not automatic and requires that the individual meets specific clinical and financial criteria for nursing facility level of care.

Our Facility’s Status:

  • We accept a limited number of Turquoise Care beneficiaries. Please contact us for current availability.

We understand that navigating Medicaid can be complex. Our admissions team can help you understand the process and connect you with the appropriate resources to determine eligibility.
